Dio fans need to beware for one reason alone: the songs on Metal Hits are all live versions of these well-known tracks. And while Ronnie James Dio is arguably one of the great rock singers ever, these looser concert performances don't always match him up with great bands, or, even if the band is solid, the mix is shoddy -- the version of "Holy Diver" here just blows because of the cheesy mix and tinny keyboard lines, while "Last in Line," kicks some serious ass. It's a mixed bag, and hardcore fans will want it just to be sure, simply because who can wail above the din like RJD? And some of it is a din. Other decent versions include "Wild One" (despite a muddy mix), "Evil Eyes" and "Hollywood Black." Thom Jurek, All Music Guide
