Fatback Band showcase their more down-tempo, relaxed side on Mellow. Replacing many of their heavy-backbeat drum breaks with smooth mid-'80s R&B drum-machine presets, the group does a brilliant job covering such classics as "At Last" and the Chi-Lites' standard "Oh Girl," but the standout track is the 1983 politically charged rap "Is This the Future."
