March 28, 2009: This is one of the truly great artists of our American music...To listen and hear the lyric sung on pitch and phrased as the composer and lyricist intended is so rewarding in this day of brack and bray. While the insidious intent of todays "stylist" is to attract attention to themselves at the expense of the MUSIC (it is called music,you know) this great lady devotes heart and soul to the tale of the tune..Jazz is the lifes' blood of our musical culture,and oh my heaven, does it live in every note sung by Marilyn...She is a national treasure to be listened to by us, the way Billie,Dinah,Ella and Carmen have occupied our ears in the past.
