About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

The towering legend of her bravura Evita (1979) performance scarcely prepares a listener for the varied pleasures of Patti LuPone's latest. On this outing, she moves beguilingly from Lennon and McCartney's "It's for You" to Randy Newman's "Real Emotional Girl" and Jimmy Webb's "Where Love Resides," with stops at Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Cockeyed Optimist," Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty's "Back to Before," and Rupert Holmes "My Son" from the forthcoming musical, "Dorian Grey," plus others along the way. In a voice that's never been sweeter or displayed so many colors before, she offers a hilarious, Piaf-esque "I Regret Everything," a feather-light "Air That I Breathe," and drama too, with Sondheim's "Not A Day Goes By." But the capper is newcomer John Bucchino's "Playbill." LuPone pours out that rich Italian sound, in a breathtaking delivery of a story that's so complete and stirring, it's sure to have you hitting the repeat button. She pretty much calls it right, closing with Gene Willadsen and Isham Jones's oldie, "My Best to You." Andrew Velez, Barnes & Noble
