About this Artist

About This Item

Masters of Chant represents another shining chapter in the history of the group Gregorian. For nearly a decade, producer Frank Peterson (Sarah Brightman) has pursued a vision of a type of music that has by now become its own genre. Contemporary pop and timeless chant combine as never before on Gregorian's albums, with songs from Coldplay to the Everly Brothers, Björk to Queen given over to the serenity of choral chant. Barnes & Noble's exclusive CD Masters of Chant includes Gregorian's unique interpretations of songs by Dire Straits, Eric Clapton, Pink Floyd, Simon and Garfunkel, and more! Don't miss the related live-concert DVD, Gregorian: Live at Kreuzenstein Castle, available separately.

March 19, 2009: This is one of my all time favorites for listening in the car or in front

of a fire. The blend of voices is absolutely unique with an incredible

reverb sound on touching selections such as Clapton's "Tears in Heaven"

and "We Will Be Heroes." I listen to many CD's of beautiful medieval chant but this is truly just as inspiring as traditional church music.

Bravo.

August 12, 2008: 18 years ago, Enigma showed us that the ancient practice of Gregorian chant could be combined with modern musical ideas and instrumentation to produce something that was at the same time spiritual and sensual. For that reason, &quot Sadness (Part 1)&quot is the only track that holds my interest here. As for the rest, well... the sound quality is top-notch and the vocal work is superb in terms of melody and harmony, but it's all rather devoid of feeling. See guitarist George Bellas as another example of a musician who's focused on technique and timbre rather than heartfelt songwriting...
