About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Riding off the success of their June 2007 full-length With Lasers, as well as the general enthusiasm in the hipster world for all things Hollertronix, Brazilian dance darlings Bonde do Rolê released a set of remixes by popular indie artists and new songs just as rumors surfaced that the band was breaking up, or at least downsizing. Although it's titled Marina Gasolina, "Office Boy" and "Solta O Frango" get equal remix attention on the record, with two each, coming from CSS, Architecture in Helsinki, Peaches, and Ladytron, among others, and all of whom actually do a pretty good job chopping up Rolê's already hectic beats (though Peaches' reworking of the title track does stand out from the rest). The three new songs included -- "Cagado," "Miami Beach," and "Contaminada" -- are more padding than anything else ("Contaminada" is nearly identical to "Marina Gasolina," and "Miami Beach" is utterly forgettable), but it's harmless, fun padding, like everything else the band does, which makes the record a nice accompaniment to Bonde do Rolê's discography.
