About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Because of his Puerto Rican heritage and the fact that he once wrote songs for Menudo, Marc Anthony has been compared to that omnipotent Latin crossover stud, Ricky Martin. But Anthony, an established salsa star, is a far-superior vocal talent, and a not-half-bad tunesmith to boot. On the self-titled album that many are labeling his crossover effort (even though he has previously sung in English and played the lead in Paul Simon's infamous Broadway musical, The Capeman), Anthony collaborates with such pop and R&B savants as Walter Afanasieff, Corey Rooney, and Rodney Jerkins. The result is a graceful, accessible collection that nods to Anthony's salsa background -- ardently on the exuberant "De La Vuelta," more delicately on the buoyant single "I Need to Know" -- but is most memorable for its ballads, which emphasize Anthony's sweetly throbbing tenor. Whether crooning to a lover in "How Could I" or cooing to his daughter in "My Baby You," Anthony fills a void in today's otherwise eclectic pop scene: He's a male artist who sings big, sentimental love songs, and sings them really, really well. How do you say "Look out, Celine" in Spanish? Elysa Gardner, Barnes & Noble

December 11, 2008: I absolutely love this album! Every song just means so much, so much emotion. It can only be that he and I grew just 13 blocks, away from each other. And I didn't know until this album was released! If you haven't heard this album, you are missing out on some serious music, from a wonderful singer!
