Before Eightball & MJG debuted nationally with Comin' out Hard on Suave Records in 1993, the duo released a number of underground recordings, many of which were later compiled on Lyrics of a Pimp in 1997. Of particular note here is Eightball & MJG's first big hit, "Listen to the Lyrics," as well as the early version of "Armed Robbery," their first significant hit. The sound quality here is obviously lo-fi, as independent recordings were still a rare occurrence at the time, particularly in the South, yet the historical nature of these recordings should interest die-hard fans curious about the duo's humble beginnings.
