Love at the Greek captures Neil Diamond at the height of his late-'70s excess. Considerably less kinetic and exciting than the previous double-live album Hot August Night, Love at the Greek finds Diamond at the peak of his powers as a schmaltzy showman, hamming up each of his songs for the audience. It's the kind of performance that will please both dedicated fans, who will love Diamond's no-holds-barred showmanship, as well as listeners with an ear for kitsch, who will no doubt treasure Diamond's immortal introduction "Ladies and gentlemen...the Fonz! September 12, 2006: Unfortunately, the title of this CD is slightly misleading. Yes, it is indeed 'Love at the Greek' - what it is not, is the complete LP version on CD. Two songs from the original album are missing: 'The Last Picasso' and 'Longfellow Serenade'and wouldn't you know it, they're two of the best. The video of the concert also contains songs not present on the CD. If anyone from Sony / Columbia reads this review (unlikely I know) please, please, please digitally remaster the tapes(or whatever it is record companies do these days)and then reissue the entire concert on one, or even more, CDs! Omissions aside, it's still worth purchasing this CD as it showcases Neil Diamond at a time when he was still at the peak of his vocal powers. It doesn't have quite the power and energy of 'Hot August Night', but it comes pretty close and the rendition of 'Holly Holy' is arguably more dynamic and exciting than previous live versions. If you want a reminder of just what a great performer Neil Diamond was in the 1970s, then get hold of 'Love at the Greek' and 'Hot August Night', just sit back, listen and enjoy! So many live albums disappoint - this one doesn't.
