Recorded after their landmark Girls Can Tell LP but released months before it, Spoon's Loveways EP served as a reintroduction to their core audience as a wiser, more confident combo. Britt Daniel and Jim Eno's unmistakable post-punk energy still anchors the band, but their infatuations with Wire and the Pixies have ceded a bit to allow blues, pop, and even doo wop influences in. While not their most cohesive set, the diverse range of the five songs is the EPs strength -- Loveways was the first indication that Spoon was chasing their own sound into exciting and unexpected territories, and in the process coming into their own as a great rock band. ~ Bryan Carroll, All Music Guide All Music Guide
