'Love Deluxe' is the album that arguably placed Sade among the ranks of the late 20th-century's leading vocalists. (A great vocalist must, at a minimum, have (1) an unmistakable sound, and (2) the genius to can make the most insipid song a classic. The titans -- as opposed to the mere 'greats' -- have the added feature of great 'heart', meaning their listeners are so affected that they are not the same after having heard them. (In jazz, the titans are Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, for starters; in soul/R&B Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Al Green, etc.) With 'Love Deluxe' Sade has earned the title of great artist. Her work on this CD is moving (profoundly so at times), deeply sensual, and she projects with great heart. 'Love Deluxe' (1992) is her finest album to date and probably the only one that features so many performances illustrating her wonderful talent.

Sade was absent from the music industry for a few years before this album was released. The sound is a bit more polished and the music is toned down. But don't get me wrong! Sade lost none of her touch to captivate and enthrall listeners with her voice and musical arrangements. There are some hits here most notably ''No Ordinary Love'' and ''Kiss Of Life''. Other fantastic songs are the beautiful ''Like A Tattoo'', ''Cherish The Day'' and ''Pearls''. This is a terrifc album and easily one of Sade's best! Here she sings with more emotion than in previous releases. This is a good album that will make a great addition to any music library. If you're just becoming a Sade fan or would like to be, I recommend starting with the albums ''Promise'' and ''Stronger Than Pride''. Then if you like her move on to this album. Her style and delivery changed ever so slightly on this release so it's sort of an acquired taste, but an excellent purchase nonetheless! Enjoy it!
