The same format (three discs with nine songs each), most of the same artists, and even some of the same songs as Grandes Clasicos de la Salsa, Los Grandes Hits de la Salsa, put out concurrently in June 2006 by Discos Fuentes, is yet another salsa collection to add to the already long list. Label favorites Los Titanes, Joe Arroyo, the Latin Brothers, and Fruko y Sus Tesos all appear numerous times, and, unlike Los Grandes Clasicos, Los Grandes Hits does in fact dive full-force into the hybrid Latin pop/salsa that often infiltrates its way into budget-line compilations. For listeners who want their fair share of synthesizers and super-clean productions thrown into the brass riffs and intricate drums, this may be the right set, but for those looking for more "authentic" (or at least unadulterated) music, it'd be better to look elsewhere, perhaps even past Discos Fuentes altogether.
