About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

A rootsy pop/rock duo from the seaside town of Venice, CA, Honeyhoney make their debut with the unpretentious five-song EP Loose Boots. Fronted by the appealingly bluesy-voiced Suzanne Santo, who avoids the usual Janis Joplin-style rawker-chick affectations in favor of something closer to Nina Simone's understated cool, Honeyhoney have a solid line in twangy uptempo rockers like "Little Toy Gun," which fondly recalls gimmicky '60s singles by the likes of Cher and Nancy Sinatra, and the jangly, countrified shuffle "Give Yourself to Me," but the back half of Loose Boots shows what Santo and partner Ben Jaffe are best at. A trio of ballads ranging from the soulful synth-led soft rock of "Bouncing Ball" through the overtly jazzy "Thursday Night" to the quiet '70s-style singer/songwriter pop of "David," these songs reveal the depth and variety both of Santo's vocals and the duo's eclectic reach. The generally strong songwriting and Santo's formidable presence are enough to tie these disparate songs together for the length of an EP, though it's possible that a full album's worth of stylistic experiments might seem scattershot. ~ Stewart Mason, All Music Guide All Music Guide
