About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Call it a comeback! With her triumphant appearances at New York’s Beacon Theater in 2002, Liza Minnelli regained her legendary stature as one of America’s great performers. And thankfully, it was recorded. This vibrant album documents a singer embracing an eager audience and never letting go. Revisiting some of the great moments from her celebrated career -- a brace of songs from Cabaret and the title tune from New York, New York are expected highlights -- as well as select material associated with her mother, Judy Garland (“Over the Rainbow”) and appropriate standards (“I’ll Be Seeing You”). Minnelli turns in nakedly emotive renditions that remind us what made her a star in the first place. Although comparisons with Garland’s thrilling 1961 Carnegie Hall concert recording are inevitable, Minnelli’s disc can proudly hold its own as a contemporary gem. William Pearl, Barnes & Noble

April 03, 2004: It's been a very long time since Liza has done a world tour, mainly because of her health problems, if there ever was a time to make a world tour comeback, this would be it. "Liza's Back" is truly a magical event, She's healthy happy and steady and ready to rock and boy she is. The show starts out with the wonderful "Liza's Back" which catches Liza in a private moment, she's so forceful and energic and no one has ever managed to follow her. After she delivers a beautiful rendition of "Something Wonderful" which allows us to witness her greatness at it's best. Her voice is amazing, although I have to admit that it's not what it used to be but who would want that anyway?...hmm her vibrator is a great resemblance to that of her mother's during her last years of performing, her vibrator is wavy and wobbly but it sounds damn good if You ask me. Her voice has also evovled a certain huskiness which is sexy, especially on songs like "Don't Smoke In Bed" and "Something Wonderful". During the show she also delivered a so called "Cry" medley which included songs like "Cry", "Don't Cry Out Loud" and Crying", the medley is another wonderful proof of Liza Minnelli's versatile talents. She also shows us just how great a "Mama Rose" she would have made, just witness her starkly realistic performance in "Roses Turn" and her concert standard "Some People", she would have brought new life into Broadway. This event was so emotionally charged, especially when she performed the song "Never Never Land" which ended with a tribute to her mother and a strofe of her signature song "Over The Rainbow" people went crazy and we were all crying the moment she shouded out: "Thank You Mamma" oh that was so amazing. Towards the end of the show she gave us a little trip down memory lane when she performed songs from "Cabaret", "Mein Herr", "Money, Money", "Maybe This Time" and "Cabaret" plus the New York, New York medley of "But the World Goes ´Round" and "Theme from New York, New York". Her divine decadence is amazing and she truly is a legendary performer. This CD is a bonus for me especially, mainly because it contains two of my absolute favorite Liza songs ever "City Lights" and "Mein Herr". Liza please do us the favour and visit us soon...okay? We love you, we adore you but most of all we respect you. God Bless the woman who was sent by god to spread joy.

I CANNOT wait to hear how this will come off on cd. The is a DEFINITE for all Liza fans. Her voice soared on so much of the music, and she moved like no one's business. She is indeed back- and this time she aint leaving us again!
