Editorial Reviews

Part of Capitol's Las Vegas Centennial Collection, Live from Las Vegas features Ol' Blue Eyes, singer Frank Sinatra, performing in December of 1986 at the Golden Nugget casino. Nicknamed "the Dungeon" by Sinatra because of the room's small dimensions, the Theatre Ballroom at the Golden Nugget was actually designed for Sinatra and led to a pleasant intimacy between him and the audience. Having recovered a month earlier from an illness that put him in the hospital, Sinatra was in good spirits when he took the stage, and his chipper attitude is evident. Kicking things off with a bright and swinging version of "I've Got the World On a String," Sinatra proceeds to breeze through the evening in classic form, his burnished baritone having diminished little with age. The same could be said for his legendary swinger's wit when, midway through the set during some banter with the audience, Sinatra learns a husband and wife are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary and proclaims, "Let's take him out and get him bombed!" Needless to say, the audience loves it. Matt Collar, All Music Guide

October 27, 2007: He was seventy-one years old at the time this was recorded. It may have been nice to see him live in 1986. It's just not nice to hear him live on a CD during this time. There are better CDs of him live. If you want to hear Sinatra at his best in concert, buy "Sinatra at the Sands," which was recorded in 1966 and is in stereo.
