The pop ingénue turned alt-rocker has transformed herself yet again, this time into a dynamic worship leader. It's perhaps the role she was born for -- few artists are as, er, fervent in their devotion as Rebecca St. James. Fans have long known her to be a winning live performer, but on Live Worship: Blessed Be Your Name, St. James steps beyond that role, leading an enthusiastic crowd though a moving evening of praise. Recorded at a concert in Temple, Texas, St. James and her stellar band animate praise standards ("Here I Am to Worship," "Above All") while beautifully showcasing several new devotional songs. Vocally, St. James is stronger than ever, attacking with gusto the power ballad "Lamb of God" and taking the sultry "Let My Words Be Few" to anthemic heights. With all this goodness, one wonders why Live Worship is so short -- just nine tracks, including one hidden cut, and one overly slick studio track clearly added for radio airplay. Next time, make it a double live! Lisa Zhito, Barnes & Noble
