The 27 numbers presented here offer Bill Monroe in more intimate settings, including workshops, jam sessions, and live performances where he's casually swapping yarns, offering anecdotes, and displaying the blistering yet folksy and down-home style that's made him a musical legend. His group included a number of marvelous players and future stars, such as Del McCoury, Peter Rowan, Bill Keith, and Tex Logan. Monroe was also playing with brothers Charlie and Birch. This is 75 minutes of breakdowns, folk tunes, railroad songs, and work songs, such classics as "Blue Grass Stomp" and "Blue Moon of Kentucky" and many others performed in a loose, next-door-neighbor atmosphere. Ron Wynn, All Music Guide
