About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Gomez can't decide whether they'd rather be the Band, Santana, or Pavement, and that's what serves them so well. Rather than wear their influences on their sleeves -- like so many other English bands -- Gomez throw a bit of everything into the sonic morass. One minute they're vamping on an earthy guitar jam, and the next they're skittering into an angular art-rock rhythm. The results were sometimes disjointed on the band's first album, BRING IT ON, but Gomez mend the blemishes on their new album, LIQUID SKIN, and emerge with a disc that's as catchy as it is crafty. Songs like "We Haven't Turned Around" mine the same lush folk-rock waters as Chris Cornell's new "Can't Change Me" (with a dash of the Auteurs thrown in for good measure), while "Hangover" and "Blue Moon Rising" ramble and sway like a drunken bohemian stumbling home after a bender. Things looked bleak for a while, but Gomez prove there are still plenty of adventurous musical paths out there to unearth. Jon Wiederhorn, Barnes & Noble

October 24, 2004: I absolutely fell in love with Gomez's song "We Haven't Turned Around" after watching Heat Wave, on Roswell. It was an amazing song, and the cd is amazing! the lyrics are deep, and the album is moody, perfect for confusing times. Its definetely worth buying!

January 11, 2002: Very simply, they are, in my opinion, the best band in Britain at the moment. Their music not only has fantastic vocal melodies and harmonies, it's also backed up by intricate, layered and yet crisp bluesy-acoustic rhythms. Revolutionary kind, We Haven't Turned around, Rhythm and Blues Alibi, and Devil Will Ride are all brilliant. I defy anyone to say a word against Gomez (like the above reviewer) until after you've seen them live. Simply, they blew me away and all the aforementioned intricacies just filled the room (Enmore, Sydney) - 3 brilliant vocalists all of whom are excellent guitarists. After that gig, I went back home and listened again to Liquid Skin - it keeps growing on me. So what if it's not a radical change from the equally excellent Bring it On, but these guys arent't the revolutionary kind - sometimes originality isn't revolutionary, it's just about quality and class.
