About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Out of all of Madonna's albums, Like a Prayer is her most explicit attempt at a major artistic statement. Even though it is apparent that she is trying to make a "serious" album, the kaleidoscopic variety of pop styles on Like a Prayer is quite dazzling. Ranging from the deep funk of "Express Yourself" and "Keep It Together" to the haunting "Oh Father" and "Like a Prayer," Madonna displays a commanding sense of songcraft, making this her best and most consistent album. Madonna's real Confessionsby Anonymous

January 20, 2007: This is Madonna's real opus. Raw and on the psychedelic side, and often times funky, this is a glimpse of her in the confessional, almost litterally, working out her early demons.

November 22, 2005: This is classic Madonna. This album ROCKS and PROVOKES all sorts of emotions. It's fun, motivating, and insightful. The title song is a MASTERPIECE. It's a strong blend of a capella, dance-pop, and gospel. There's no song like it. Oh Father is a BEAUTIFUL and uplifting song about facing one's fears and dealing with abuse. I also like the soft and sweet Promise to Try and Jessie. Keep it Together has a cool jazz feel to it. Cherish is wonderfully written and performed. It's joyful and exuberant. Madonna's singing on this album is pitch perfect. Innocent, yet mature and emotional. The order of the songs is also terrific. I don't like the song she sings with Prince (Love Song). I never cared for Prince. This album would be perfect without it.
