    Let's Play

    About this Artist

    Editorial Reviews

Raffi has become the undisputed king of children's music, and with good reason. His albums cull a breadth of sounds -- anything from folk and country to reggae and ragtime is fair game -- but sound as easy and natural as springtime rain. The joyful Let's Play!, another collection of Raffi originals and familiar favorites, is no exception. Among the originals, an immediate standout is "Jane Jane," a tribute to chimpanzee expert Jane Goodall with African flourishes and a chiming youthful choir. Raffi the naturalist comes to the fore on "Arbutus Baby," one of many tunes featuring fiddle playing by Cape Breton superstar Natalie MacMaster, and "Roots and Shoots Everywhere." He goes international on "Tsetang Gangla (On the Playground)," a traditional Tibetan song adapted by Raffi, and a live recording of "May There Always Be Sunshine," four poignant lines he delivers in a handful of languages, stressing the song's universality. The charming singer puts his personal stamp on the Beatles' "Yellow Submarine," to which -- with the help of MacMaster -- he gives a Celtic twist; a piano-based "Eensy Weensy Spider"; and a whimsically jazzy take on "What a Wonderful World." Let's Play! is an invitation that your wee ones won't be able to resist. Lydia Vanderloo, Barnes & Noble

September 27, 2010: My children really love this CD. It's fun, playful and singable, and the messages are good for children. "Jane Jane" is a great, fun song for early elementary school children about Jane Goodall, the great Chimpanzee scientist. "Blessed Be" is a wonderful song about bonding with a new baby. This CD has won many awards, including a Gold Award from Parents Choice, calling it "both vintage Raffi — gentle, tender and playful — and an evocative reflection of his personal growth and years of commitment to the well-being of children." HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

September 27, 2010: Raffi's outstanding music has been great for our children's development. Raffi's achievements include 13 million album sales, millions of video sales (two Quintuple Platinum videos), lifetime achievement awards, honored by the United Nations, etc. If you like Raffi, get ''Let's Play.'' It's good music. If this is your first exposure to Raffi, buy the outstanding collection, ''The Singable Songs Collection,? It's the silliest and most singable children's music of all time. It includes the amazing, Triple Platinum album ''Singable Songs for the Very Young.'' Our children also love the 3-CD set ''Raffi's Box of Sunshine.'' And the concert video ''A Young Children's Concert with Raffi'' is pure magic and a ''must have.''
