ASV/Living Era's collection of legendary French vocalist Charles Trenet's original mono recordings from 1935-1950 shows an artist at the peak of his career. Featuring classics such as "La Mer" and "Marie, Marie," the golden throated Trenet proves himself a stylish performer, and an impeccable songwriter. Sadly missing from this anthology is the infectious "Boum," a charming tune about the heart that featured prominently in the 1991 comedy/drama Toto Le Hero. While La Mer succeeds in successfully introducing audiences to the singer, 1990s Extraordinary Garden: The Very Best Of Charles Trenet offers a more complete overview of this wonderful musicians storied career.
