Editorial Reviews

Already a chart-topping sensation in the U.K., Welsh mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins makes her U.S. debut with La Diva, featuring such favorites as "Time to Say Goodbye" (popularized by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman), the Neapolitan classic "O sole mio," and an adaptation of Verdi's "Va pensiero." July 07, 2007: I recently saw Ms. Jenkins on YouTube, and decided to download her album. She is not good!!! Her foreign language structure is not up to par, especially in "Con Te Partio". Don't even waste your money on this album! If you really like classical music, then purchase the originals (Sarah Brightman, hello!!!)

April 21, 2005: For anyone who hasn’t heard the young vocalist Katherine Jenkins sing Opera, you’re missing out on one of the UK’s newest talents. Part of the “crossover” genre that has gained popularity since the late 1990s, Katherine embraces everything about a great singer: a marvelous voice, a repertoire that consists of some of the best pieces of music ever written, and the looks and charisma of a superstar. I’m sure that fans of Charlotte Church and Sarah Brightman will definitely love this CD. However, after experiencing the glimmer of those vocal chords as she reaches the high note on pieces such as “Time to Say Goodbye” and “Seguidilla,” many more will love Katherine as well. -- Personally, it’s hard to pick my favorite track on this CD. Not only does Katherine have moments of greatness, she also shows consistency. Her voice flows through a refreshing version of “Caruso,” and she even shows versatility in a creative version of “Va Pensiero.” If I were forced to pick a favorite, it would probably be “Time to Say Goodbye,” only because her version may be the best I’ve heard yet. The only downside to CD may be “Ole Sole Mio” (a very pretty song and Katherine definitely does it justice, but after the first million times hearing it….). -- Overall, this is a very impressive sophomore release. Not only is the material maybe a bit stronger on this CD, but Katherine herself seems to be growing as a singer. I would have to strongly recommend this CD for all fans of classical, this “crossover” genre, and even the pop music fans who enjoy a great singer. I’ve been a fan of hers for a couple of years now, and you will soon be one, too. Thumbs up, Katherine!
