August 03, 2003: It is a very good album, yet a very difficult one. The songs are all dark, with a dry sense of humor here and there. The musicians (Arto Lindsay, Marc Ribot among others) do a very good job creating an ambience not heard in a lot of other records. The only comparison seems to be with Scott Walker's Tilt. In Bashung's work, it sounds like the songs of Chatterton with the dark ambience of Fantaisie militaire although there is a lot more noise on this record (especially from Lindsay)... It's not a very catchy album, but I'm always listening to it.
