About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

As a Rhodes Scholar, former military man, and former recording studio janitor, Kristofferson drew on a wealth of experience from the various social strata he'd inhabited and created a rich body of work that spoke to the daily trials and fleeting joys of people without privilege, those seeking not riches but rather a moment of clarity, a tender touch, a peace of mind. Even before this 1970 debut album was released, Kristofferson's compositions were already shaking up the Nashville establishment. On the strength of this album, it's easy to hear why. The album includes such much-covered Kristofferson standards as "Me and Bobby McGee," "Help Me Make It Through the Night," "For the Good Times," "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down," along with lesser known -- but no less stirring -- cuts as "To Beat the Devil" and "The Other Side of Nowhere." This newly expanded edition adds four previously unreleased bonus tracks, including the swaggering original version of Kristofferson's cautionary autobiographical tale "The Junkie and the Juicehead Minus Me." One of the best albums from one of the best songwritersby JohnQ

July 16, 2009: This great album was also released under the title of "Me and Bobby McGee" after the success of Janis Joplin's cover of the song, but whatever you call it, it's a truly great album (made ever better with the addition of the bonus songs). If you're a fan of the singer-songwriter era, you have to add this album to your collection. Every Kris Kristofferson album was a special event even if they weren't among the biggest sellers.

I Also Recommend: Border Lord/Jesus Was a Capricorn, The Silver Tongued Devil and I.
