About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

From his first moments on the airwaves -- with the rump-shaking club jam "Focus" -- Joe Budden earned the fandom of urban radio enthusiasts with his distinctive voice and comical rap style. After lending his idiosyncratic baritone and lyrical skills to several mix tapes and collaborations, Budden makes his album debut with a disc jam-packed with hip-hop's most essential ingredients: banging beats sprinkled with a little R&B flavor and quotable, tongue-in-cheek rhymes. Released in advance of the album, the club-friendly "Pump It Up" has immediate radio appeal, as does the Ja Rule–esque "She Wanna Know," featuring hip-hop hook-queen Lil' Mo. On the infectious "Fire," featuring the ever-energetic Busta Rhymes, Budden dabbles in house music, but he then takes things down a notch with "Calm Down," a poignant track about his mother and his troubled past. From start to finish, Joe Budden is filled with hot club bangers -- so hip-hop fans best buckle up for an exhilarating ride. LaShieka Purvis Barnes & Noble

December 07, 2004: Joe Budden is superior to alot of artist when it comes to lyrical skills that's why this album is automatically a 4 star album songs like Focused get alot of street credibility. the 10 min. song also whent hard joe is really a different style of rapper who is much needed in the game and i feel his cd alot. It might have been lacking mabey one more commercial track to released to make it a more successful album. But all in all yeah it's tight.

July 17, 2003: Joe Budden’s self titled album has created a lot of noise in the hip-hop community. The hit single “Pump It Up”, the first off his album has received tremendous radio play and can be heard at virtually every club across the nation. The release, off of Def Jam Records, features the likes of Lil Mo’, 112, and Busta Rhymes. Joe’s label has called him “the future” and this is coming from a label that boasts such artists as hip-hop juggernaut Jay-Z, DMX, and Ja Rule. Fans recognize the talent he possesses and know that he has the potential to remain a force in hip-hop for years to come. All that remains to be seen if he can remain consistent and continue to rock the crowd like he did on this album.
