About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Although Jesse Powell's self-titled debut album retained the services of successful writers and producers such as Stokley Williams and Keri Lewis of Mint Condition, Daryl Simmons, Michael Stokes, and Gordon Chambers, it never reached its market potential. The first single, "All I Need," didn't shake up the charts. With his remake of Enchantment's classic "Gloria," which is unarguably the best track on the CD, Powell is able to demonstrate some of his vocal range. However, he comes up short with style and creativity, lending nothing new to Emanuel "E.J." Johnson's original arrangement and vocal styling. In addition, this track features the original music and background vocals of Enchantment. The remainder of the CD is mixed with midtempo new jack swing rhythms and laid-back ballads that all sound consistent with each other. As Powell's vocals mature, his delivery should become smoother.
