Editorial Reviews

Jazzin' the Blues, Vol. 5: 1930-1953 follows the precedent established by preceding volumes in the Jazzin' the Blues series of albums, showcasing a number of blues songs given a jazz treatment from a given era. The era emphasized on this volume is the years 1930 to 1953. Most of the featured artists in this volume perform multiple songs. In particular, Yack Taylor and Monette Moore handle much of the collection's load. Other less prolific performers include Lizzie Miles, Helen Proctor, Baby Hines, Babe Wallace, Blue Lu Barker, "Momma" Albert Price, and Ann Cook. This fifth volume makes a nice supplement to earlier volumes and should appeal to anyone who enjoyed the earlier volumes. Jason Birchmeier, All Music Guide
