Editorial Reviews

First, there were big rock spectacles, then there were huge rock extravaganzas…and then, finally, there was Pink Floyd's THE WALL. This live document, which was recorded over several 1980-81 live performances of the epic sonic journey, may not replicate the dramatic visuals of the show's staging, but it certainly captures the grandiose sweep of the music. And while 20 years -- and countless radio plays of the studio versions of "Another Brick in the Wall" and "Comfortably Numb" -- have elapsed since, there's still something stirring about experiencing the concert performances. This two-disc set also brings fans a pair of songs that didn't make it to the original album. The furtive "What Shall We Do Now?" was heard briefly in the film version of "The Wall," while the claustrophobic "The Last Few Bricks" (originally timed to coincide with the completion of the actual wall that was erected around the band members onstage) has never been released in any form. Their inclusion makes IS THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE? a must for any Pink Floyd completist and a remarkable period piece in its own right. David Sprague, Barnes & Noble

July 17, 2002: I was extremely impressed with these recordings. The album has a definite live ''effect'' and you can certainly get at least a bit of a taste for what it may have been like to experience the show in person. The version of ''Another Brick In The Wall, Part II'' was especially intriguing as it was a much more upbeat variant with a ''bluesy, loungey'' type feel to it. The bass on ''Young Lust'' (I believe being achieved through a flanger pedal or something similar) made me replay the song several times in a row, it was that interesting.

I never saw the band in person and when ''The Wall'' was released I was in high school and not allowed to buy rock albums. Therefore not until college was I able to delve-into Pink Floyd's music and I am still making up for lost time.

All in all I rate it as one of my favorites. I consider Pink Floyd without Roger Waters as Led Zeppelin without Jimmy Page, so I consider this album to be the best means to capture the live experience of Pink Floyd.
