One of the most adventurous Brazilian jazz singers, Claudia Villela has teamed up with guitarist Ricardo Peixoto through the years in a variety of settings. While many musicians make appearances on Inverse Universe, most are only on a number or two other than Peixoto and the quiet percussionist Cassio Duarte. The emphasis is on the interplay between Villela and Peixoto. The singer has a beautiful and haunting voice whether singing her own Portuguese lyrics or improvising wordlessly. She and Peixoto, who perform ten of their originals on this set, often echo each other's musical thoughts and together they create unique yet melodic music. They are quite consistent and Inverse Universe is a good example of the musical magic that they always create. Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
