Editorial Reviews

With over 100 releases under its belt, International DeeJay Gigolos went from being just another electronic music label to a full-fledged powerhouse. This feat was accomplished thanks in part to the monolithic Hindenburg of electroclash that made its way to the forefront of electronic music culture. If Casey Spooner is the Bob Denver of electroclash, then DJ Hell is most certainly its Alan Hale Jr.; with the ruthless efficiency that only the captain of a finely tuned ship can bring, he fearlessly forgoes many of the goofy eccentricities associated with electroclash and brings about a diverse sound that breaks away from the convenient pigeonholes the mainstream has tried to place on the sound. The fifth installment from the book of Hell brings listeners an eclectic cast of characters: the brilliance of Tuxedomoon, the intensity of techno overlords the Advent and Terence Fixmer, the over the top buffoonery of Fischerspooner, Miss Kittin, and the Hacker, the electro quirkiness of Detroit cult heroes Japanese Telecom. However, the shining moment is the reissue of Detroit techno classic anthem "Flash" by Orlando Voorn/Fix. At two discs in length, the compilation begins to get a bit overwhelming and exhausting, but it's still a solid soundtrack for those curious for so much more than bombastic performance art and tiring fads.
