Editorial Reviews

Flutist R. Carlos Nakai and pianist Peter Kater put their improvisational skills to the test on this live album and pass with flying colors. Playing as if they breathe of one body, the pair fly around each other like two swallows working the eddies of a canyon. On "Tohono," Kater takes off on a spectacular journey backed by Nakai's focused chanting tones. While Nakai's flutes and eagle bone whistle often sound like owls or screeching eagles, Kater too can articulate nature. On "Cat Tails & Wild Rice," he creates an ominous thunderstorm, scattering wildlife as if in alarm. Nakai and Kater each take impressive solos, with Nakai using his digital delays to create dramatic echoes. Carol Wright, Barnes & Noble
