About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Atlanta rookie T.I. wants to be taken seriously, but after listening to the first couple of tracks on his debut album, it's hard to do that. The young rapper is filled with so much bluster and confidence that it's hard to take him at face value. I'm Serious is, after all, his first album, and he has the audacity to call himself the king of the South. Despite all the bravado, T.I. still has plenty of lyrical ability and uses it to chronicle his ability to get women ("The Hotel") and to dump women ("I Can't Be Your Man"). He also shows a more sensitive side on the track "I Still Ain't Forgave Myself." Production-wise, I'm Serious doles out plenty of typical Southern-fried funk, with the Neptunes producing one of the best tracks on the album with "What's Yo Name," as well as the title track, "I'm Serious." Unfortunately, too many of the other tracks sound the same and a few are blatant rip-offs, namely "Do It," which is a note-for-note remake of Juvenile's hit "Back That Azz Up." T.I. claims to be the king of the South, but on I'm Serious he fails to show and prove. He does, however, have potential. If his talent ever matches his confidence, he may be headed for stardom. July 25, 2006: I am from the south, Georgia to be exact and i know and can prove that T.I. is the King of the South. If people would listen to the king he tells us that it is a difference between the T.I.,T.I.P., and Clifford Harris. Every man has a sensitive side and a hard side to them and I believe that T.I. has both. And there is nothing wrong with that. If I could meet him in person I would letg him know that I give him upmost respect for showing that side of him.

August 21, 2004: on one hand the number of artists that I've liked so much that I went back to get their old stuff. But I enjoyed Trap Muzik on a whole other level so I bought his album before that to see why this man thought he should've blown up off of it. I don't understand why he didn't either. T.I. is that type of real that you really NEED to know but don't WANT to know. His words of advice and his tales let you know the things that you yearn to know deep down inside but don't feel you're really ready for the answer. I respect him because he's honest without being tacky. Real without trying to prove something. Demands respect without needing a billion pieces of jewelry, some tanktops, and an ice grill to prove it. On top of that, his beats compliment his lyrics instead of bogarting them! I hate it when an artist has extraordinary beats and mediocre lyrics, or elementary lyrics with high-tech beats. (Note: Can you say 'Lil' Flip'?) I see why T.I. showed a picture of him in a Leprachaun suit. Right next to Outkast and Ludacris (who definitely stepped up his game since the 'What's your fantasy' album (note: loved that song, hated the rest of the album), I do believe he's part of the Southern Royalty.
