About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

A collection of songs featured or inspired by the comic-book-turned-movie Dick Tracy, I'm Breathless is essentially Madonna's take on popular music from the '40s, particularly big-band pop. Although her singing shows a surprising amount of range, the material tends to be nothing more than cutesy novelty numbers, like the double entendre-laden hit "Hanky Panky." I'm Breathless approaches greatness only on "Vogue," a hit single tacked on to the end of the record. Featuring an endlessly deep house groove and an instantly memorable melody, "Vogue" is a detatched, affectionate celebration of transcendent pop and gay culture and stands as Madonna's finest single moment. May 11, 2007: "I'm Breathless" is a 40s-music-inspired album in which Madonna really shows her abbility to sing. She really shows off her vocals, especially on the songs "Sooner or Later", "Back In Business", "Something To Remember" and "Vogue". Her take on big band pop gave her to the chance work in unfamiliar territory, which she seem to have conquered wihtout any trouble at all. Even if some songs are just about silly little things in life like the song "More" and "Cry Baby", this album with it's jazzy-blues-pop-retro tune is a must have for anyone especially Madonna fans.

June 24, 2005: This album has some good jazz/blues songs by Madonna and some ballads and pop songs, but the stand-out is definitely the groovin' song "Vogue". The other songs aren't half as memorable.
