About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Ingeniously released amid the Dreamgirls Oscar buzz, I Love You finds Diana Ross back in the studio for the first time in nearly a decade. Unlike similar comeback projects, however, the Supremes star uses love as a conceptual thread tying together a disc of warmly rendered cover tunes. Aided by producers Peter Asher (Linda Ronstadt, Cher) and jazz vocalist Steve Tyrell, Ross delves into an eclectic cross-section of material. While some choices are more obvious, including a sultry version of Marvin Gaye's "I Want You" (co-written by Ross's late brother, T-Boy) and an exuberant reading of Jackie Wilson's "To Be Loved" (co-penned by Berry Gordy Jr.), elsewhere the 62-year-old icon successfully tackles more challenging material, such as a horn-soaked version of Irving Berlin's "Take My Breath Away," a lush rendering of the Beatles' "I Will," and the poignant "What About Love" from the Broadway musical The Color Purple. At the heart of this sentimental collection, Ross pours unabashed devotion into the harmony-kissed original title track, "I Love You (That's All That Really Matters)." This collection is a lovely valentine from an artist who possesses a timeless appeal. Dave Gil de Rubio, Barnes & Noble
