About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Eve 6 unsweeten their power-pop sound with stabs of aggressive riffing and angsty vocals, but the L.A. trio, who were signed while still in high school, reflect more of adolescent awkwardness than rock-'n'-roll rebellion on Horrorscope. The album's 12 lean, punchy songs are catchy, the playing is well-muscled, and the harmonies are tight -- just what fans would expect from the glossy, tasteful alt rock Eve 6 served up on their self-titled 1998 debut. Singer/bassist Max Collins still tends to try a little too hard in the lyrics department, especially on "On the Roof Again" ("Your heinous highness broke her hymen") and "Amphetamines" ("Waiting for the month of come-what-may, I smelled you on my shirt today"). But the couple of cuts that break away from the pack -- in particular "Bang," with its insistent, arousing rhythms and commanding guitars -- hint that Eve 6 are ready to graduate into some serious rock. March 21, 2001: I was familiar with Eve 6 after their first album so when this album came out, I took a listen in a record store. I loved it immediately. Mix modern rock with pop metal and you've got this riff fest of catchy songs. Not a week spot on the album.
