Canned Heat brings out the best in John Lee Hookerby JohnQ

June 30, 2009: After playing at Woodstock, Canned Heat got a chance to record with the great Bluesman John Lee Hooker. Some other meetings between white boy blues bands and an old blues master would result in the band trying to push the old timer to be faster and louder, but that does not happen here. Canned Heat came in to support Mr. Hooker and they play with respect behind him. The wonderful thing is that this respect results in a classic electric blues album. It results in sessions filled with joy and artistic freedom. Some real musical magic happens when Alan Wilson plays harmonica behind Mr. Hooker and is a fitting tribute to Alan Wilson's much missed talent (You can even hear John Lee talking about how impressed he is with Alan on the CD's) Highly recommended album.

November 26, 2000: I bought this album when it came out, bought it again on cassette, and now on CD! This is really meaty blues, with background and support by Canned Heat. It just does not get any better.
