The Pine Leaf Boys switch from Arhoolie Records to Lionsgate Music for their third album, but their musical approach remains the same, as the disc's title, Homage au Passé (Homage to the Past), suggests. Still young, they are still strictly traditional as Cajun players. "J'Suis Gone Pour Me Saouler" has a bit of a rock & roll feel in the mood of Bill Haley & the Comets, and "Je Cherche Tout Partout" has the traditional country flavor of Hank Williams & the Drifting Cowboys, that is if either of those 1950s units happened to be in a Cajun frame of mind. Otherwise, this is dyed-in-the-wool traditional Cajun, yet performed with a certain rowdy freshness by players still youthful enough not to have gotten comfortable in being professional musicians.
