Editorial Reviews

Originally recorded by the CBC in March 1982, it took nine years for this concert to be released on CD to the general public. The set is a good sampling of his early albums (excluding From Fresh Water, which was released after the concert but before this album's eventual release), with solid performances throughout. The inclusion of between-song patter is a revelation to those who think of Rogers as a mythical, almost saint-like figure of folk music: the man had a wicked sense of humor, and he wasn't afraid to use it. The versions here may not be definitive, but as a collection it's top notch. Sean Carruthers, All Music Guide

September 15, 2005: Whenever Stan Rogers fans get together, the talk turns wistfully to the music he could have written, and the concerts he could have given, in the years since his death at 32. The studio albums are wonderful, but it is on the concert CDs that the man and the music come alive. These are stories beautifully written and wonderfully told, from 'Lies' - about a prairie housewife mouring the passing of beauty - to 'Giant'- a tribute to the lore that the Scots settlers brought with them to Cape Breton. Fabulous!
