About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

A more traditional country and bluegrass album than his "dawg" sessions, Rounder issued this Grisman session in 1988. He's playing with J.D. Crowe, Ricky Skaggs, and Doc Watson, among others. There's little jazz here, but there are some superb bluegrass, country, and folk selections, plus marvelous playing. Ron Wynn, All Music Guide

A Bit Too Traditional?by glauver

September 20, 2009: A bought this as an LP 15 or so years ago and recently upgraded to CD. Yes, it is fine traditional bluegrass. However, I think a bit of Grisman's experimental side mixed in might have made it stronger. With less than 75 minutes of music on 2 CDs, mixing in a few new grass artists of the era such as New Grass Revival or Seldom Scene would have been feasible. Most of thee best cuts on the album belong to Doc Watson. I would recommend buying DGQ-20 if you want to find out why Grisman is so influential in acoustic music.

September 19, 2003: If you like bluegrass, you'll like this album. Some of the greatest pickers and singers ever contributed to this masterpiece. My music collection would be incomplete without this album.
