March 15, 2003: When my band teacher announced that we were to play "Jupiter" by Holst nearly the whole class took a look and fainted! The music is amazing and composed beautifully. Now, our band is fairly new since we didnt have a teacher for a while, but we picked this song up quick. Everyone that was opposed now love it and we all want to play it at every concert we have! I recommend Holst for anyone who has a passion for music, he is amazing.

May 18, 2001: Wow! This is quite the recording of the Planets. Mars begins ominously, growing louder and more vicious as time passes. The orchestra is rhythmically very sound. The brass are not always as powerful as I would like, but they are plenty adequate. I enjoy the full strength of the orchestra in general, though. Dutoit uses a pipe organ to bolster the orchestra near the end of Mars on the powerful crescendos, an amazing effect! His ending climax sounds like the bearer of the Apocalypse. The other movements are well-executed, with gorgeous tenderness on Venus, playful mischief on Mercury, abundant joy and passionate energy on Jupiter, unnerving monotony on Saturn, Dukas-like magic on Uranus, and chilling, otherworldliness on Neptune. The sensitivity of the orchestra to Dutoit and the clearness of tone make this a top choice for the Planets.
