Charles Gerhardt conducting The National Philharmonic Orchestra. Chesky has done unexpectedly well with these mostly 1968-vintage recordings. Although the sound is a little compressed compared with Gerhardt's later work, the detail is all there, and the work does have a youthful freshness. Highlights include perhaps the best of all Gone with the Wind suites, plus oddities such as the music from Rashomon. Bruce Eder, All Music Guide
