About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Repeating the formula of Low's half-vocal/half-instrumental structure, Heroes develops and strengthens the sonic innovations David Bowie and Brian Eno explored on their first collaboration. The vocal songs are fuller, boasting harder rhythms and deeper layers of sound. Much of the harder-edged sound of Heroes is due to Robert Fripp's guitar, which provides a muscular foundation for the electronics, especially on the relatively conventional rock songs. Similarly, the instrumentals on Heroes are more detailed, this time showing a more explicit debt to German synth pop and European experimental rock. Essentially, the difference between Low and Heroes lies in the details, but the record is equally challenging and groundbreaking. Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

October 03, 2004: Heroes is undoubtedly one of the most important and excellent experimental rock albums of all time. This wonderful 1977's gem shows Bowie at the apex of his work with Brian Eno. The sound of the relative rock songs (Beauty and the Beast, Blackout, Joe the lion) is muscular and somewhat mad, while the epic ballads Heroes and Sons of the silent age will make you cry. And like in Low, the four ambient instrumental are amazing, full of great and infectious melodies. The party finishes with the cool electronic-disco The secret life of Arabia. Forget all the fool bad reviews of the people that say that this album is somewhat overvalued: Heroes is an album that has stood the test of time.
