Editorial Reviews

Blending technology with organic rock, Hello, the 1995 debut by the well-traveled singer/songwriter Poe is a striking record that manages to groove and feed the head with well-written observations. Working with a myriad of co-writers, producers (including Dave Jerden of Alice In Chains fame), and musicians (including ex-Guns N' Roses drummer Matt Sorum), Hello could have been an unfocused mess. However, that is not the case; the album has a definite cohesiveness. The title track leads things off with a hypnotic, ambient pop vibe as Poe attempts to communicate with someone who will not be reached. At the other end of the spectrum is the following cut, "Trigger Happy Jack." Over grinding guitars, Poe again expresses an inability to communicate with someone and the chorus is immediately memorable. Maybe a little schizophrenic musically, Hello is an enjoyable romp where practically each track is a surprise waiting to be found. Tom Demalon, All Music Guide

March 11, 2007: poe's entire album is the BEST!!! every song has a twist and is catchy. if you enjoy different types of music, pick this one up at bn if you're strolling around town or whatever. let me tell you a bit about her songs. *hello* great hook at the beginning. once you start it, you can't change it. great from beginning to end. honestly, probably the best song on the album in my opinion. *trigger happy jack* wow! i'm impressed with this song. i love it! poe puts style to it. if you're edgy and kinda weird, this is your song. *choking the cherry* highly recommended. *that day* listen to the lyrics at the beginning. it will lead you to the amazing catch at the end. *angry johnny* next to hello, best song on the album. it's a little sad. listen to it. it pulls you into it and is beautiful even though she talks about killing somebody. *dolphin* very catchy. *another world* recommended. *fingertips* I LOVE IT! *beautiful girl* nice. *junkie* very edgy. i got tricked at the end for some reason... *fly away* one of the best songs on the album. very pretty. listen to it. BUY THIS ALBUM!!!

January 21, 2007: I first discovered this band opening for some other 90's band many years ago at a local club - I was blown away!! The first thing that grabbed me was the stand up bass player and then her voice just carried me away. I've recently misplaced (old roommate stole it I'm sure) the first CD, so I'm reordering it. Wonderful full voice and a great groove. I was surprised to re-listen to the CD and know it could be released as new today and feel fresh.
