November 23, 2009: This Box Set contains 37 CDs.so it is quite a bargain. There are 107 compositions of Haydn included on the discs. The 104 numbered symphonies, symphonies A and B, and Sinfonia Concertante are splendidly performed by the Austro-Hungarian Haydn Orchestra, under the baton of Adam Fischer. What I like about this Set is that the symphonies are arranged in numerical order, and played by the same orchestra under the same conductor. You get one basic interpretation of the music. and since the symphonies are arranged in order of composition, you can get an understanding of Haydn's development of the symphony, in form and orchestration. The fact that it took 14 years to record all the CDs, causing some differences in engineering amongst them, and the fact that modern musical instruments, not 18th Century ones, are used, should not affect your enjoyment of the symphonies. After you listen to all 37 CDs, you will feel a sense of accomplishment, in knowing that you finally heard all of Haydn's symphonies. This Set is a must for anyone who appreciates the symphonies of the "Classical" period.
