Snider is amiable enough on his first album for John Prine's label, and he's taken his literal move to Nashville figuratively as well -- becoming a more conventional singer/songwriter in the process, downplaying the quirks that got him noticed initially. September 20, 2000: Todd Snider's fourth release has creative lyrics to match his expanding music style. The fact Snider cannot be categorized is testament to his commitment to his own creative development. He has infused catchy brass into a few tunes along with solid electric guitar, acoustic guitar, harmonica and piano. And the lyrics are not shallow nor melodramatic like others who take themselves too seriously. This is vintage Snider with poignant looks at reality and life's lessons. If his previous releases struck you in any way, this one will not disappoint. The more you listen, the better it is.
