About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

One of the East Coast's premier rap outfits, Mobb Deep are known for haunting, orchestral classics such as "Shook Ones, Pt. 2" from their sophomore disc The Infamous and Murda Muzik's "Quiet Storm" remix featuring a spirited cameo by Lil' Kim. H.N.I.C. (Head Nigga in Charge) marks the solo debut of one half of the Queens duo, Prodigy, who delivers the same high caliber of intricate beats and aggressive rhymes as he does with his partner, Havoc (it's no mistake that the intro track is called "Bars and Hooks"). Throughout the 22-song disc, Prodigy sounds ready to challenge any MC to a freestyle face-off. In fact, he spars with Havoc on the anthemic "Wanna Be Thugs" and goes toe to toe with N.O.R.E. on the eerie, harpsichord-accented "What U Rep." Other solid cuts include the Alchemist-produced lead single "Keep It Thoro," a head-nodding track with a stark piano hook and blaring horns, and "Veteran's Memorial," a nostalgic narrative about lost loved ones delivered over a rumbling bass line. With H.N.I.C., Prodigy has established himself as one of hip-hop's new top dogs. Abby Addis Barnes & Noble

December 30, 2000: I personally have been waiting for a album from P for the longest time. Trust me with this album he does not let anyone down. He is clearly one of the best lyricists in the game but a lot of you are not aware of this. He's been in it for more than a minute and has delivered one of the most consistant solo albums to date filled with his vivid, real lyrics as well as tight beats. One of the things that set P apart from the rest of so called hard roacks is P flows as if he is painting a picture of the reality that surrounds him and has created the person that we have been custom to for the last 7-8 years. He gives you the hard core rap that you know and love but at the same time let's you know the lifestyle has a price. It's almost as if he is constantly at war with himself and he tells his story with such realness and honesty that you have no choice but to love him. Buy the album if for nothing else you will know supported one of the tightest in the game. This can't be said about a lot of hip hop artist's music because they lack so many elements to their rap arsenal(bling, bling and iced out don't count- REAL heads know this!) Realness doesn't come often and should be appreciated when it's done in the right shape and form.
