April 19, 2007: Hands down this is the finest "complete" set of Mahler's symphonies to date.First I want to discuss "remastering" as this set has undergone for this release. I have never heard such gratifying results. Symphonies 3-8-9 are DDD recordings recorded from 81-83. Thus it is the remainder symphonies that have been remastered. You will not hear one element of hiss on Symphonies 1-2-4-5-6-7 or the Adagio of Sym 10. Symphony 1 ranks with the finest out there. Symphony 2 has always been a classic for the masses. Symphony 3 is in a class all its own with no equal. Same goes for 8-9! It is only Symphonies 5-6 which seem to lack a bit of "depth" in the percussion element of these works but with Symphony 6 this turns out to be an attribute as it comes off as a very smooth and unique interpretation. Amazing packaging, rice paper like sleeves, highest quality manufacturing all grace this release. With an amazing price to boot. If you love Mahler this is a must have!
