About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

Tranquilly strummed or delicately plucked, the guitar offers a perfect musical encouragement for calm and peaceful moods. Selections in a quiet vein from master guitarist Julian Bream's catalogue of recordings comprise this album of GUITAR FOR RELAXATION. Much of the music is Spanish or Latin American in origin, including works by Granados, Albéniz, Mompou, Villa-Lobos, and others. Arrangements of Mozart and Haydn are also featured, as is a stately Sarabande from a Bach lute suite. Bream is at his very best in a transcription of Ravel's "Pavane pour une infante défunte," eliciting an incomparably rich variety of tone colors from his instrument. Alongside the chestnuts are some uncommon gems from composers such as William Walton and Hans Werner Henze, but every work here offers a unique route into the land of serenity and repose. September 10, 2003: This cd gives EXACTLY what it promises! I borrowed it from my library and loved it so much I had to buy it for myself. It is beautiful, soothing guitar music to put you in a blissful mood...just the kind of atmosphere I need in the evening to make our home a peaceful place.
