About this Artist

Editorial Reviews

When they burst onto the post-punk rock scene in 1980, the Psychedelic Furs' heady, lysergic swirl of guitars, bass, drums, sax, and the husky, haunted voice of Richard Butler was unlike anything that had been heard since the heyday of the Velvet Underground. It was intoxicating, and their arrival kicked off a mini-wave of trippy British guitar bands, including Echo & the Bunnymen, the Teardrop Explodes, and the Chameleons UK. This is the Furs' first official greatest hits package (though a 33-track retrospective, Should God Forget, was released in '97), and it's a breezy encapsulation of their career to date. From the raggedly ominous sound of their earliest albums to the slicker fare of later years, Greatest Hits includes 17 songs, most of which have made some kind of impression on the Billboard charts. The set opens with the trance-inducing, rhythmic drone of "Sister Europe," touches on the Furs' first big U.S. single "Pretty in Pink" (this is actually the original version, which didn't chart here), FM radio and dance-club staples like the percussive "Love My Way," comparatively tender numbers such as "Heaven" and "Heartbreak Beat," and more. Also included is a previously unreleased live version of 1982's "Only You and I." Liner notes stress that this album isn't a memorial: The Psychedelic Furs plan to follow this up with their eighth studio album. Moira McCormick, Barnes & Noble

December 27, 2006: I have always been a fan of '80s pop and I was researching this band online and I found this album. I listened to the tracks and they sounded great. I already knew the songs "Love my Way" and "Pretty in Pink". I love those songs to death so I wasn't suprised that this album is considered a classic. You will love this album. I recommend tracks 1-17...wait...THAT'S ALL OF THEM!!!

June 05, 2005: A lot of the songs sound the same, although there's nothing wrong with any of them...
