Rarely has a greatest-hits collection been as effective as Elton John's first compilation of Greatest Hits. Released at the end of 1974, after Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and Caribou had effectively established him as a superstar, Greatest Hits is exactly what it says it is -- it features every one of his Top Ten singles ("Your Song," "Rocket Man," "Honky Cat," "Crocodile Rock," "Daniel," "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," "Bennie and the Jets," "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me"), plus the number 12 "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" and radio and concert favorites "Border Song" and "Candle in the Wind." Despite the exclusion of a couple of lesser hits from this era, most notably "Levon" and "Tiny Dancer," Greatest Hits is a nearly flawless collection, offering a perfect introduction to Elton John and providing casual fans with almost all the hits they need. March 04, 2005: Elton John's very first "Greatest Hits" compilation shows a very well collection of pieces of what he has done so far. The only arguments that some may give are that "Border Song" was not necessary to be part of this collection, and the record company, for some reason, omitted "Madman Across the Water" leaving "Tiny Dancer" and "Levon" off of the collection. Earlier versions of this compilation did not have "Candle in the Wind", and those versions are not even in print anymore. If you're a huge Elton John fan but are only familiar with his early stuff, than this is definately the compilation for you.

June 11, 2002: If you are a new EJ fan then this is a perfect album to get. It has songs taken from ELTON JOHN, MAD MAN ACROSS THE WATER, HONKY CHATEAU, GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD, and CARIBOU. Your Song is a wonderful signiture tune and it is also romantic. Daniel is a keyboard treat that you will cherish. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road test's the limits of how high Elton can sing. Saturday Nights Alright For Fighting is a rocker that you can dance to. Rocket Man can take you back at the time where America landed on the moon. Bennie And The Jets is an awesome entertaining song about a female rocker. Candle In The Wind is a lovely Ballad about Marlyn Monroe. Don't Let Sun Go Down On Me is about a guy trying to save his relationship, plus two of the Beach Boys are featured here. Border Song talks about racist people. Crocoldile Rock is a dejavu of the late fifties. If anybody wants to start listening to Elton John then I suggest listening to this. You'll just love it!
